Sale

Along with the bad news yesterday I got the check in the mail from selling the dry replacement heifers. This cattle market is great. I sold 21 head averaging 890 lbs. for $1.02 1/2 per pound. It was too many years ago I got half that amount of money for the same thing. I've talked to a lot of ranchers that say cattle prices are still too cheap and are just getting closer to what they "should be." None of them can ever define "should be" for me so I don't know how much they think they're cattle are worth. It's never worth it to argue with them but cattle prices are set by the market, like it or lump it. It's no different than selling a house or a used car. You may "feel" it is worth more money than the market will give you but if you want to sell it you have to sell for what the market will offer you. I am just happy the market is as high as it is and hope it maintains here for a while. I know the price will go down again in the future but it sure is a lot more fun doing this when the prices are high than when they are low and you are losing money on every transaction, that's for sure.
n
nValue is the life-giving power of anything; cost, the quantity of labour required to produce it; its price, the quantity of labour which its possessor will take in exchange for it.
