February weather extremes added up to a near-normal average temperature for the month, says Keith Meier, meteorologist in charge at the Billings National Weather Service Office.
The end result of chilling lows and stunning highs was an average temperature just 0.2 degrees above normal.
All the cold, cold temperatures were balanced by the too warm temperatures for a neutral February Temperature wise. Moisture was down in Billings, it was down here too but not as bad as Billings. It's dry there and I saw some farming going on that direction while here it's muddy and underneath the mud the ground is still frozen. No farming here.
What's the rest of the spring bring?
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center found no clear signals one way or another for temperatures or precipitation for the rest of March. Its long-term forecast through May anticipates below-normal temperature this spring and an equal chance of below- or above-normal precipitation.
The rest of the spring is who knows what. Long range forecasts are terribly unreliable so deal with what comes and do your best.
