Cows

Yesterday was another pretty exhausting day. We worked all the cows, over 500 head, and then trailed them out to a different pasture.
n
nWorking them involves corralling them again, giving them their yearly VD and immunization shots and pouring them for worms and grubs. They in turn decided to test the integrity of my corral. We won in working them but the corral lost in holding them well. No major outbreaks but they sure did a lot of damage to the corral. I am going to have to spend some money repairing the structure.
n<!–more–>
nWe then commenced to trailing the cows out to a new pasture about 5 miles away from the corral where we weaned them. Now trailing freshely weaned cows is not an easy task. It's what I call a "whip and spur" operation. You can't let your horse stand around, you have to keep him moving in pretty high gear to keep the cattle going since the freshely weaned cows are going to be wanting to turn around and go back and find their calves.
n
nWhile we were fighting the cows down the trail the hired man said that this kind of stuff made him appreciate a steak even more because it means one less cow in the world to bedevil some poor cowboy. The he turned to me and said, "This is why cowboys aren't vegetarians, they get too much sastisfaction eating these onery critters." We won and made it to thier pasture but we were awful tired when we were done. I sure am glad that chore is over.
n
nI was a vegetarian until I started leaning toward the sunlight.
