Cowboys

Let me tell you something about the word cowboy. It derives obviously from the words cow and boy. Seems real obvious to the most casual observer. So what I would like to know is why when I hire a "cowboy" they think all they need to know about is horses? A horse is a tool used by a cowboy but is not where there main focus should be. It should be on knowing how to work and understand cows.<br />n<br />nThe never ending hired man struggle just never seems to end. Oh, don't get me wrong, the "cowboy" that I have working here now will do but he thinks, in his pea brain, that he is a lot better hand than he actually is. I usually don't like to hire "cowboys" since they do make such poor hired hands but was kind of pressed to the wall this time. I will give him that he is better than most "cowboys" that you come across but doesn't approach the quality of a real hired man. He's not bad enough to can but not good enough to trust. What's a person to do?<br />n<br />nLast note for this morning. Why won't it rain here? This is the second major storm that has bypassed the place. I know there is nothing I can do about it but I am starting to get real desperate and depressed. This drought is hard for the Psyche to take and makes me wonder about the future of the ranch.
