Dueling Parties

The Democrats and Republicans are at it again. The Democrats are complaining that Republicans are going to attempt to block poor voters from voting and the Democrats are laying the ground work for disqualifing military ballots from being counted. Why do both parties not like to see everyone vote? Why do they, both parties, work so hard to disenfranchise voters?

Because they want to win, by hook or crook, that's why. Then people wonder why politics upset me so.

You're right, Sarpy. Both parties should be encouraging people to vote. The fact that the USA has such low voter turnout directly relates to the increase in negative campaigning and the ridiculous amounts of $$ spent on "convincing" people how to vote. As much as I hate to say this, but there has to be some control over spending and campaigning in order to equalize the field. Wouldn't that, in itself, encourage more voter turnout?

I must have missed something. How if we exert "control over spending and campaigning in order to equalize the field" will that lead to a higher voter turnout? If people aren't interested in doing their duty to our Republic now, how will spending less money make them more interested in voting? People who are interested in the process vote and those who aren't don't. Spending less money and putting more rules on the campaigning is not going to change that. Putting more rules on spending and campaigning would also be a violation of our individual freedom of speech so enacting these limits would more than likely require a Constitutional Amendment. That's a pretty tall order.

A does not equal B here. I would appreciate an analysis of how you get from A to B in a logical manner. Then maybe I would understand how you made such a large jump and maybe could agree with you. Otherwise the best thing to do is muddle along with the mess we have.

Since we have already voted absentee, lets just take another drive today and see what else is going on in the world. That is what I am really going to do as I am spending most of next week in St V's. Funny how they tear into each other with the ads but when elected they all act about the same.
