Do you know what I hate more than going to the dentist? ( I am not fond of the dentist.) Dealing with our post office. Today when I went to get the mail we had a notice that we have to reapply for the PO Box. My FIL has had that PO Box since before Sam was born. He is going to pitch a fit! Anyway while I was waiting and waiting for my package. I read what all we have to do to apply for the PO Box. I will talk about that later. I read that we have to have 2 forms of ID. and a physical address. What we use for a physical address is not going to work. When I asked about what could be used as two forms of ID I was told that if I would take the time to read the info given I would find it. Well, excuse the hell out of me I didn't realize that answering a question was such a hardship. God forbid we help the customers. I was livid.
So when I get home I start reading what could be used for ID, Driver Licence and voter ID card. Are 2 of a list of many things we could use. But guess what? These item have to have your physical address on them. Ours don't. They list our PO Box. So therefore I guess we are a nonperson and DO NOT deserve a PO Box. Never mind the fact that we have a PO Box is because we can't have mail delivery at home. I guess that doesn't matter. Also a birth certicate isn't a form of ID that can be used but every form of ID that they do take relies on you birth certificate to get it. I am NOT looking forward to dealing with the idiots to try to make these points. The new postmistress seem to think that there is no way to do things but what her little instruction book says. To heck with common sense.

I don't know what we are going to do. We will never meet their requirements for proving we are who we are. They say all this proof is to prove we aren't terrorists. So , we all have to suffer and have our lives ruined? If I can't get mail my life and buisness will be ruined.
Do you have 911 there? It doesn't sound like it. Our physical address is one town, our postal address is another town, and 911 recently changed all house numbers on the streets. However, your story has mine beat.
I can only imagine this is adding to the drought stress. Hang in there. Your way of life is very important to the rest of the country.

Contrary to popular opinion, the airline industry is still subject to a lot of federal involvement (regulations, mandates, etc.), and thus not truly unregulated (see: http://www.frbsf.org/publications/economics/letter/2002/el2002-01.html and http://www.ncpa.org/pd/regulat/reg-1.html).
As for the garage on the corner, there are other garages (whether they're convenient, or not), and you're free to use one of them (if that particular garage is really THAT bad, it'll close when it loses enough customers); there's only one USPS.
Would you really like to see the government not involved with the airline industry? You might like to wish that the industry would safely regulate itself but wish in one hand and crap in the next, see which one fills up first. Government DE-REGULATION of the airlines is what caused the current state of affairs with the industry. Before de-regulation how many economically viable and stable airlines did we have in this country, all of whom would deliver dividends in some amount to their shareholders? What about now?

There is no explanation for the post office. We have lived in the same house for 43 years, gotten our mail out in front of it in a box all that time but the address has changed four times.
We recently had 911 addressing implemented. The UPS and Fed Ex folks usually find us - but when they have different drivers working they will call & ask for the 911 address. Our voter's registration also uses this address.
As someone who has had the pleasure of working with the public - I try not to be too hard on those who do now. They didn't make the rules, but are forced to use them - even if the rules make no sense at all...
