Senate Minority Leader Bob Keenan, R-Bigfork, said, "We went down there for 25 minutes and listened to him rant and have a 10-year-old temper tantrum. To me, it's sad. I really wonder if he wants to be governor. This is an inconvenience for him and he's finding out that it's a very difficult job.''
Even the other Democrat in the room all but admitted it happened.
Senate President Jon Tester, D-Big Sandy, who also sat in on the meeting with Schweitzer and the Republican leaders, said, "I thought the governor had some stuff he wanted to get off his chest. He's showing some of the frustration he's got with the partisan games.''
Tester predicted the next meeting between Republicans and Schweitzer is "really going to be the test."
"Some stuff he wanted to get off his chest." So this is the appropriate way to treat your opposition? Right or wrong, this is not how things are done in politics. All the Republicans wanted was a conversation, not a lecture, on what to do about the State Budget bill which is $121 million that's over what is legally allowed. Somebody has to stand up and ask the hard questions and the republicans are.
You know I don't like Schweitzer, but in this particular instance I can only feel sorry for him. Things aren't going his way and he throws a fit. This is really what adults do to express themselves.
What happened to working together? Lecturing people on what you want them to do is not working together. He puts on a good show to the people but he's not playing well with others. Just look at his intimidation tactics he is using and the threats against freshman legislatures. More 10 year old bullying tactics at the best, a man losing control of himself at the worst.
I know a large majority of people out there think Gov. Brian Schweitzer is the second coming himself but they really need to start seeing the true man(?) that he is, a little kid losing control.
Truth always rests with the minority, and the minority is always stronger than the majority, because the minority is generally formed by those who really have an opinion, while the strength of a majority is illusory, formed by the gangs who have no opinion-and who, therefore, in the next instant (when it is evident that the minority is the stronger) assume its opinion ... while Truth again reverts to a new minority. Soren Kierkegaard

I hope you vote every one of the politicians out that you talk about. I believe what you say about them, and they need to go.
Also, I'm sorry for your drought. I hope you can survive long enough to see that weather pattern change. It will change, eventually. Hang in there. It's worth it.
Here in NH, the snow banks are so high that my spare car is buried completely under snow, and it's supposed to snow another 5 inches or so over the next few days. It's getting downright scary to me, we have so much snow. Hope my septic system survives the thaw. Sure wish I could send some of this your way.

Politicians don't directly threaten individual opponents. They just campaign against them, like you propose.
House Republican Floor Leader Mike Lange, R-Billings, said Schweitzer has been telling new Republican legislators that he will personally campaign against them during 2006 election season and will veto their other bills if they don't toe his line on ethanol, wind energy and ethics laws.
Seems what Schweitzer is doing is OK by me...not too much different from what Bu$h and his surrogates did to Daschle over in SoDak. Generally I like the reporting in the BG, but why couldn't they get an actual quote from one of these "freshman lawmakers?" Why rely solely on the Minority Floor Leader for information? I mean it can't be that hard to figure out that there are only a handfull of actual "freshman" lawmakers of either party. Let me try to get a list together of all the "freshman" and perhaps one of us could get them on the record :-}
