I heard somewhere that polydactyls are a genetic mutation that originated in New England. And when I visited Hemingway House in Key West, I saw a whole tribe of 'em -- 20 or 30 cats, all related, all big-pawed descendents of Hemingway's -- lounging about under the palm trees.
