You know? I have always said that we rush the holiday seasons. But now I am certain of it. Yesterday when the boy and I were in town we decided to look for some Thanksgiving napkins. I feel they add something to the table. Anyway we searched in Wal-mart, not my favorite place to begin with, for the napkins. I asked several people that worked there and they looked at me with the typical blank look and said that they didn't think there were any but there were Christmas ones over there. And with that they pointed in some unspecific direction. After searching for 20 minutes we found them with the office supplies of all things. At least we found them. I do realize that there is only a month this year between Thanksgiving and Christmas but doesn't Thanksgiving get any sort of consideration??
And while I am griping why don't places have paper sacks? I had to pick up the stuff that I bought at Wal-mart at least 5 times yesterday but the plastic sacks had everything rolling around the back of the Suburban.
Thanks you for listeing. I feel better now!
Thank you for listening.
stuff in the sale bins. It is like they associate Halloween with Thanksgiving, and as
soon as it is November, it is Christmastime. But I also noticed this last week that people
are out there doing their Christmas shopping, so the stores' marketing must be working.
Either that or no one believes this good weather is going to last into December.
Yes, it sounds like an nice idea - to keep your dollars local. Local for us would be Belfry (3 miles) - where there is one grocery - period. Then Bridger (12 miles) - one grocery, hardware store, lumber yard, couple of places to buy gas, tires, etc... Then Red Lodge (18 miles) - one grocery and several dozen overpriced touristy places. We do spend some of our hard earned dollars in local restaurants once in a while. However, most of my grocery money is spent in Billings or Laurel - 50 something miles away. Or Powell, Wyoming about 40 miles away & still a bargain with their sales tax. Why? Because of the ridiculous difference in prices. Also the attitude of some of the owners of the "local" businesses. Serious lack of local competition, and then to have someone say, "Well, this is the only place that you can buy tires." Sorry, I'm heading down the road...
So, sorry folks, but I keep an ongoing list for the day that I am sent to the city for equipment parts or something similar and I do stop at Walmart, if I want to. Once in a while we make a trip to specifically shop for some of the above items which aren't generally available at Walmart either.
