I have always felt that Republicans and Democrats are very much alike but have never been able to find the right words to prove it. This opinion piece really shows it to be true. An example:
Both will forgive anything a member of their team does. Remember when conservatives thought President Clinton's dalliance with Monica Lewinsky was a national scandal, and liberals thought conservatives were a bunch of prudes? Then Arnold Schwarzenegger was accused of groping women, and suddenly the liberals wanted to hang him, and the conservatives said Democrats should lighten up.
All the items listed really make me laugh since it is all so true. The conclusion is why I don't really align myself with either party since it covers the way I feel.
And the No. 1 way liberals and conservatives are alike: Both think they can run your life better than you can. Liberals want to raise taxes because they can spend your money better than you can. ... Conservatives want to censor cable TV because you're too dumb to decide what your family should watch. They want to ban drugs, pornography, gambling, and gay marriage because you just don't know what's good for you.
I always say that it doesn't really matter if you vote Democrat or Republican. They both feel that they know what is better for you than you do yourself and want to control your actions through government laws or policy. Both parties are out to screw you and politicians are only in the game for thier own personal power, not to help people. I don't know what the answer is but the game really sucks.
Politics are now nothing more than means of rising in the world. With this sole view do men engage in politics, and their whole conduct proceeds upon it. Samuel Johnson

I don't know about you, but I registered as Independent; I want to vote issue and policy, not Party. I'm pushing 50 (a bit over 2 months to go), and remember when both political parties were a lot closer to each other (and the middle) than they are now. Too bad we can't get a more centrist, minimal-government party established.

Both Democrats and Republicans will put their hands in your pocket and take your money. The only difference I can discern is that the Democrates do give you change.
