Shipped the steers out of here on Friday. They really weighed well this year. 554 lbs. That's 40 pounds better than last year. Some early September rains really made a big difference. Taken 9/26/2008.
That is the largest reason. The cows get a good month of gaining weight before the weather slows them down. After doing this for 6 years my weaning weights are higher than when I was weaning in the first of November and the winter feed bill is a whole lot less. It works out really great.
The weaned calves get a lot nicer weather to get over the stress in too. Another bonus. It is something I really like.
Nice looking animals. Where did they go? We got a few little bulls in here a couple of weeks ago and are expecting the first 8 loads of steers this week.
Do you sell this early to help the cow get back on the gain for winter?
