This is why I do not allow so called cowboys to use a pistol filled with shot when handling bulls. Too many of them think they need it to handle the critters but if they were smarter than the average bull they wouldn't need it.
Didn't you think it was a sort of goofy story? Like the calves going to a feedlot at 200-300 pounds? We just have a "grow" lot and don't get anything less than 450-500 pounds. Do calves actually get weaned at 200#? And metal ingested with feed wouldn't end up in the meat. It can kill a cow but it will be with stomach or rumen trouble. I can't imagine that one uses shot on their own cattle. I do know that some could be hurt by idiots who shoot where cattle are grazing, etc. Possibley a breakdown in the plant could contaminate the meat. Mostly stir fry is cut up very small in the store or in the kitchen. If there were that many bbs in it, seems like someone would have found one with a knife. I guess I just doubt the story all the way around.
A pistol filled with shot to work cattle? I never heard such a thing, and I don't blame you for not allowing it. My dad would have kicked any of our butts for even coming up with that idea.
(and see, I've kind of been on your hired hand's side until now. Kind of.)
I seeded some grass last year in some old fields and this is the stand I got. Damn it's nice. I've always heard how hard it is to establish a grass stand but this was real easy. Just used an old grain press drill and seeded it deep. Did the same thing this year on another field and it looks like I got a good stand there too. We will see next year when, and if, it fills in. Taken 6/7/2006.

And I am sorry to read of your father passing.
