I have been going to ask you for a while if there is a reason you feed the medium square bales, rather than round bales? We have recently bought a couple hundred ton of the same squares as you feed, and they sure are a dream to haul. We do have two JD round balers that we bale our own hay with. Do you cover all your squares, or do you feed them up every winter? How do you stack them? I was not sure the best way to stack them, as we bought straight alfalfa hay, and we may carry some of the hay over till next fall.
This is only my second year with these bales so I am still learning. I am discovering that it would be best to cover them so stack them as high as you can and cover any you want to keep over. I plan on buying more tarps for my carryover.
Tap, we make the medium square bales here in northern Wyoming for two reasons. We make better hay in that size bale and we can get more pounds on a semi. Most of hay that we use ourselves, we rotocut so that it goes through a feed box without grinding.
I have no such modesty about the number of cattle my family's place can support, but then we just lease the graze, so I guess that makes sense.
