The chickens enjoying the warm sun and dry ground on the cement pad. They are really laying now. We are getting over a dozen eggs a day. Now to try to figure out what to do with all the eggs. Taken 1/4/2008.
Ask around. I bet you can easily find someone that would want to buy the extras. When my small flock was cranking out a dozen eggs a day there was no way we could use them all. I mentioned it at work and was able to get rid of 3-4 dozen a week to folks who wanted fresh, natural eggs.
Here's the damnedest thing, I ask around trying to give the things away and nobody will take them. They say they don't eat eggs or eggs aren't good for you. We eat a lot of eggs but they are gaining on us.
All I do is buy eggs...you are just a tad too far away for my shopping comfort or I would sure as heck buy your extra. We only have one hen...would get more except for the lack of a hen house and the plethora of predators....your chickens look quite content and are very pretty.
My Mennonite neighbor makes egg noodles when she has lots of eggs. She doesn't bother with drying them completely. She just puts the noodles in a zip-lock bag and freezes them. Then, when she is making soup, she gets out a bag of noodles and drops them in the soup for the last 20 or 30 minutes of cooking.
You could also make pound cake or angel food cake and freeze it for later. Your DW probably doesn't even need these suggestions.
My doctor told me not to worry about eating a few eggs every week. He says they don't have nearly as much effect on cholesterol as was once believed.
Thanks for sharing your photos, and your corner of a vast world - love the State of Montana. We have been staying at your rental fire lookout towers for six years now. Montana is still free of a lot of the 'go crazy - hustle and bustle.'
Again...thanks for sharing your energy and time involved with the site. We're looking forward to when the 'Hiawatha Bike Trail' extends into your State.
Maybe you should think about using them on the folks who built that jail in Hardin.
