Almost nobody uses baling wire, including me, anymore. Baling twine has replaced baling wire as a useful commodity around the ranch. I am always tying something up with it.
Baling wire used to rust away and was hard to pull loose from the bales. That plastic stuff never breaks down; it just frays and gets tromped in the mud everywhere. But it works just about as well at keeping everything together from pants up to doors closed. And you can cut it with a trusty pocket knife rather than bending it until it broke. The stuff on the Powder River panels looks pretty new like its never seen a bale.
The twine is just off the hay we are feeding this winter so it has seen a bale. In fact we are still feeding year old hay so it's been on the bale for over a year.
Dare I ask if the kids are providing the bubblegum?
No bubble gum is needed. Twine is all I need.
Lately, all the twine's been blue, not yellow. I don't know why.
