This Gazette article really jumped out at me this morning. Like all graffiti, this makes absolutely no sense to me and I can't figure out why someone would do it. When someone does something like this do they really think it is helping somehow?
What really got me was later in the article the comment of a disparaging remark toward a Native American as being an "apple." Now I have never heard of this before but it sounds to me that it is used in the same context as when one black person calls another black person "uncle tom." Why is it in these groups that when one person starts to get ahead a little the others feel it necessary to pull them back down to their level instead of letting them improve their life and the lives of the people in the community as a whole? Someday maybe I will be smart enough to understand this stuff but right now I definitely can't wrap my mind around it.
