I won't point any fingers, but don't you just love it when you leave a coment on a blog that disagrees with what they are saying and they just delete it instead of responding to it. So much for blogs being about ideas, censorship of those who disagree with you is more like it.
'Letters to the Editor' receive similar rejection, or don't get printed. I'll not reject an opinion; but I have deleted one of my posts after 36 comments continued an argument not even relating to my post, just negative banter by opinionated commenters. I didn't want that trash in my basket.
I won't point them out because I have had many disagreements with these "people" and the last time I did I swore never to mention them again. I've had many arguments with them and always won my point and I guess they got tired of me pointing out their liberal inconsistencies. Live and learn I say.
I dunno, I think commenters should follow common rules of etiquette. After all, we're only guests on others' blogs. I'd let comments stand that disagree with my opinions, but those that attack my character are gone...
I've deleted comments that attack my wife or me but left a note saying the comment was deleted and why. I've never deleted a comment that disagreed with me. I want to hear dissent to my opinions and the chance to respond if necessary.
I like the idea of leaving a note identifying the deletion for all readers to see and explaining why. Its a matter of trust, I would not be part of an online community if the rules were bent so as I could not express myself. If a blog editor plays god, why play? Character attacks, dissent, SHOUTING, and swearing all should stay up in my book. They only serve to disgrace the person that posted them. Just look at how Matt Singer of Left in the West leaves up comments from Larry Kralj the environmental ranger...Larry's disrespect drives me nuts but I value the fact that Matt does not delete him. I guess the line is different for everyone.
What about blogs without comments? That bugs me.
