I saw something yesterday I haven't seen in years. A XXXXXXXX. I saw them as a kid sometimes but even seeing one like I did was neat. Hopefully I will begin to see a few more around. It wouldn't hurt my feelings.
By the way, I never admit to seeing a critter that is on or might be listed on the endangered species list. Admitting to it is a good way for the Government to come down on you and control what you can and can't do with your property. That's why I won't identify what I saw. Plausible deniability.

Now you really have us wondering. I don't blame you though. We have followed the same philosophy on a couple of endandgered sorts, one bird species and one butterfly, that we see commonly here on the place. In fact the birds have nested here for decades, raising a nice brood every year. The butterfly is a joke, so darned common that we literally see thousands and always have. Any warm day there are a dozen noodling around in the puddles in the driveway amongst the sulfurs and cabbage whites. If they are endangered so are semi-trailers out on the Thruway. I am inclined to think that their status comes from the fact that they are counted by city folks who don't go outside to look in the first place and then aren't observant enough to spot them if they did go look.

I think a lot of us have the same idea, Sam. Just leave them alone and keep our mouths shut. I see in today's paper where they have decided that the Prebbles mouse is a real species now and that will cause all kinds of trouble for people. Like the high fuel prices, fertilizer prices and shortages, etc. weren't enough problems.
