I had an interesting conversation with someone while I was waiting in line to check out. She asked me what I did for a living. I told her I was a mom. She smiled and said no what do you do. I repeated myself and told her I was a mom. She gave me a puzzled look and I told her I stay at home mom, SAHM Her puzzled look gave way to one of sympathy or pity. I am not sure which one. She then says oh, I see. After that she spoke to me like I had the intelligence of a 2 year old child.
What I am wondering is why do stay at home moms have such a negativity attached to them. No, we don't have a 9-5 most of the time we have 9-9 job. There are days we hate our job and days that we love it just like any other working person. And no we don't get paid but I think what we get back is worth more than all the money inn the world. I admit there are days I would go on a vacation to a tropical island and not leave a forwarding address but most days it is pretty good.

Peggy nailed it right on the head!
Yay for you, btw...!
I am a woman and don't have children of my own, but I think that children are so important to this world and its future that I finally quit my OWN profession (lawyer) so that I could undertake to become a "lowly" teacher. And, let me tell you, as someone who paid out more in just sales tax last year than I will ever make in salary as a teacher, working with children is WAY harder.
Don't you mind those women who can't understand you being a stay at home mom. When your own children are grown, stand them side by side with the children of those "superior" women who left the child rearing to others, and you will know you chose the right profession!
