I sold the calves. I was offered a better price earlier but it's time to sell and the market isn't going to get any better.
$1.22 per pound for the steers weighing 575 lbs., 8 cent slide both ways, 2% pencil shrink across the ranch scales , bawling off the cows with no pre-conditioning. Six cents back on the heifers at 550 lbs. Shipping date around the first of October.
Take the money and run I say. It's better than last year and the best I've seen.

Our favorite calves in the feed lot are the ones that are ranch weaned and pre conditioned. The only ones we get that way are the ones where the the original owner is keeping them!
