When I was a kid, a soft-mouthed dog brought an unweaned jack rabbit home to my aunt & uncle ("at the ranch") --
They raised that critter, which ate off the kitchen counter, much to my city mother's disgust. It played madly with the house dog, who figured out how to unlatch the cage in the night. Several different times; several different latches.
Eventually, they took it far out into wilds and set it loose. One of those difficult but necessary decisions.
Fifty years later, I still remember that rabbit with delight.
I caught this little fella chewing on a pine cone while I was checking a water hole. I had noticed for quite a while that something had been chewing on the tree but wasn't sure what. Turns out it wasn't chewing the tree but chewing the pine cones. My Darling Wife told me it was a chipmunk. I wasn't sure and did some research and discovered it to be a Red Squirrel. The "cute" the "little" or the "devil" part?
